SAFETY VESTS

One of our greatest concerns we have, and I am sure one you share is the safety of your

children on the local roads.

We have Dunns Road that is becoming increasingly busy and carrying heavy traffic and

visitor/spectator vehicles that are unaware of our school and the busy surrounding area.

We have large numbers who catch school buses and walk to school which necessitate

children walking along our country roads, many of which are open road speed limits.

Wonderful News - We have actively lobbied to I.C.C. , Police and L.T.S.A. about road

safety and have been included in a project to safe guard rural children on roads whether

they walk, cycle, travel by bus or are driven to school.

Your child will be issued with a vest that they can use on the road at anytime if you are

prepared to sign for the responsibility of the vest.

Guidelines

  1. BulletYour child has been issued with a vest.  It has been numbered and recorded as issued to your child.

  2. BulletYour child has been asked to wear the vest to and from school – we would appreciate your support in encouraging this.

  3. BulletIn most cases the vest should be worn over the child’s backpack.  (Some of our older students who have large backpacks may not be able to do this.)

  4. BulletAll possible care must be taken to keep the vests in good condition.

  5. BulletThe vests remain the property of Otatara School.

  6. BulletWe will check children’s vests annually for size and reissue larger vests when required.

  7. BulletThe vests must be returned to Otatara School at the end of year 6 or prior if your child should leave our school.

  8. BulletFailing to return the vest will result in you being invoiced for the replacement cost.
