Congratulations to our technologists who competed in the annual EIS technology challenge at Waianiwa School on Tuesday.  The competition involves students working in groups to create technological solutions to problems, some known, some unknown.  Our teams ended up being altered a little with illness affecting some students.  Competing teams on the day were:
Willie Robson, Madeline Tiriaere, Eddie Hewett and Fletcher Taylor, Emily Larsen, Lilah Thurlow, Declan Charlton.  Ben Holmes and Dustin and Murphy Stephenson trained with the teams but unfortunately were unwell on competition day.
A big thank you to the parents who supported our competitors, Tabitha Taylor and Jeremy Holmes  - not only with transport on the day but also with some pre competition coaching sessions!

Get ready for a disco with a difference this term!
Here’s everything you need to know to make it a fun and memorable night for everyone:

Theme: Be Yourself Disco!
This term's disco theme is "Be Yourself". Tamariki can come dressed as anything they like – whether it’s their favourite character, a fun costume, or just themselves. Let your creativity shine!

Entry Donations for Women's Refuge
Entry to the disco will be a donation of a canned or non-perishable item. All donations will go directly to Women's Refuge to support those in need. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

$5 Disco Packs via Kindo
We’re offering special $5 disco packs available for purchase through the Kindo app. Each pack includes:
Your choice of:
Popcorn or chips
One lolly or chocolate
A cool keyring or bag tag

On arrival, children who have purchased a disco pack can collect their goodies and get ready to dance the night away!

Polaroid Photos
Capture the memories! Polaroid photos will still be available for $2 each, paid in cash on the night.

Parent Volunteers Needed
We need your help to make this event a success! If you can volunteer to help at one or both discos, please let us know on opg@otatara.school.nz. Your support is invaluable.

Second-Hand Uniform Sale
We will also be holding a second-hand uniform sale during the disco. If you have any school uniforms that your children have outgrown, please donate them to the school office. All items will be on sale for $5 each.

The ICC is seeking feedback on its new play strategy.  This is a great opportunity to be a part of shaping the future direction of our city.

This year our Polyfest performance acknowledges the aspects of Mana Tū, Mana Ūkaipō and Mana Whānau, we bring our ancestors to stand behind us and with us.

The waiata that we are performing have been chosen in relation to our place, our people and our voice.

Last Thursday as part of our Matariki celebrations we held a class haka competition. Each class participated and  performed with great mana. The groups were judged on:
Kupu/Words - students correctly pronouncing the lyrics
Ako/Actions - students doing the correct actions in time
Whanaungatanga/Participation - all students participating with 100% effort
Manaakitanga/ Mana - all students showing pride in their performance

Pūkana - all students attempting to use facial expressions at appropriate times

Congratulations to Ponga for taking out the Junior Competition with 22/25 points and Tarata for taking out the Senior Competition with 25/25.

A heartfelt ngā mihi to our judges; Vanessa, Whaea Nae, Keita and Aria - they definitely didn't have an easy job with the level of performance from all classes!
