Otatara School’s ‘Pets ‘n’ Passion Day’ is on Friday October 25 2024. A detailed information booklet and pet entry forms will be sent home with your child/ren on the first day of Term 4, Monday 14 October. All pet entries need to be in by Friday 18 October.
The categories for the ‘passions’ competition (made by the children) will be: -
Wearable Art
Hats, boots, t-shirts, skirts etc, to be displayed for judging but can be worn in the Grand Parade.
Nature Trays
Children may use wooden trays, sponge tins or aluminum trays and prepare a creative display using natural materials e.g. moss, bark, leaves, flax, feathers or any environmental decoration.
Scene or Action Trays
Trays created to show scenes e.g. racing car track, farm scene, castle, space station etc.
Lego
Lego or similar building block models. These must be original creations, not copied from a box or published plan.
Vegetable Models
Animals, people or creatures made out of any number of vegetables or fruit. These are usually attached with wooden skewers or toothpicks.
Science Models or Experiments
Any scientific model or experiment. e.g. electrical circuits, simple machine, etc.
There are many books in the library that have simple ideas.
Decorated Bikes and Scooters
We invite children to decorate their bikes and scooters with streamers, crepe paper, cardboard guards or any inventive creation. Children may ride them in the Grand Parade.
Baking – judged on taste and overall quality
This year there will only be two categories accepted (3 pieces per plate)
- Baked Items - 3 pieces of biscuit, loaf, or slice (choose one)
- Unbaked as in uncooked items - 3 pieces of lolly cake, truffles, fudge etc (choose one)
Cake decorating – judged on decoration only
- Large cake
- Small items e.g. cupcakes, muffins etc (a limit of three per plate please)
Best Dressed Teddy or Doll - needs no explanation!
A popular event
Visual Art
- Sculpture – papier mache, plasticine, clay, cardboard etc.
- Photography - taken by the students - may be in small standing frames or if large mounted on cardboard or paper and have Blue Tac attached to all corners ready for display.
- Art Works e.g. paintings using - oil, watercolour, pencil, pastel, chalk, observational drawings, sketches, collages etc. These need to be mounted and have Blue Tac attached to all corners ready for display. Please mount artwork on cardboard or paper backing for ease of hanging.
Published writing from this year - personal experience, creative writing, poetry. This can be a piece of writing from school or home but must be edited and attractively presented.
