We are looking forward to an awesome term full of learning!
We hope you and your child/ren had a wonderful, restful term break and are ready for an action packed term with senior aquatics, inquiring, ongoing literacy, numeracy and arts programmes as well as Polyfest!

Seniors started their aquatics/water safety programme on the first day back and their self management skills were impressive -  most were organised with their togs and towel!  
We are once again implementing Swimming New Zealand’s programme which focuses on water safety and confidence and includes instruction on getting into and out of the water, submersion, personal buoyancy, and orientation.  
We are very appreciative of the parents who are helping out at Splash Palace.

In Week 4 Ōtātara School will be celebrating Maths Week along with the rest of the country. We can't wait!
Keep an eye out for things to come as we have a range of exciting activities planned here at school.

Our game of the fortnight is called 'Knock Out'. It's another easy game that requires minimal equipment - just dice, paper and a pen!
The aim of the game is to build mastery of addition facts and it can be easily altered to suit the needs of your child. To make it easier stick to two 6 sided dice. To increase the difficulty, you could use higher sided dice or use multiples of 10 or 100 for each number rolled, e.g. if you roll a 6 it could have the value of 60 or 600.

Welcome to Adelaide Brookland, Archie Canny, Rowan Hughes, Billy Mac MacLennan and Elena Ward who have started in our new entrant class. We hope you and your whānau enjoy being part of our learning community.

Our Year 5/6 leadership system is made up of 3 levels based on our school’s graduate profile.

Students write a letter outlining the service they are providing, the responsibilities they have and how they are managing themselves in relation to our school values of ako, manaakitanga, whanaungatanga and kaitiakitanga.  
 

Congratulations to our latest Level 1 leaders Alyssa Harvey and Orin Bellman and to Harry Domigan and Autumn McAulay Bowen who have now achieved Level 2.

The ICC is seeking feedback on its new play strategy.  This is a great opportunity to be a part of shaping the future direction of our city.
Students and whānau are invited to make a submission which can be done online via the Let’s Talk link, or by writing/drawing responses at He Waka Tuia’s PLAY 3.0 Exhibition.

This year our Polyfest performance acknowledges the aspects of Mana Tū, Mana Ūkaipō and Mana Whānau, we bring our ancestors to stand behind us and with us.

The waiata that we are performing have been chosen in relation to our place, our people and our voice.
